I wonder what Isaac's prayer sounded like. I imagine he knew of God's promises to his Dad. And knowing that he was the son through whom Abraham's offspring was going to number the stars might have felt like a rather hefty responsibility. So when it turned out he and his wife were unable to conceive what did that mean to Isaac?!
He rose up. He stood on the promise. He prayed "on behalf" of his wife (who I can imagine felt all kinds of shame and hopelessness). Isaac didn't give up on the promise. He persevered. He recalled what God had said and he went and talked to God about it.
And then he had his answer.
Don't give up on God's promises at the first hurdle. Talk to God about what's going on. Persevere in believing and trusting God for the promise even if circumstances tell you otherwise. God always keeps his promises…
